Takt Planning Workshops and Conference (3-Day Event)

Marking one year since the first Takt Planning workshop was held at UC Berkeley, we are pleased to host this special 3-day takt planning in construction event.  The workshop is organized as a collaboration between P2SL, the vPlanner team, and Drees&Sommer.

Takt Planning (TP) is a Production Planning technique that improves resource and material flow and reliability at the Phase Plan level when implementing the Last Planner® System (LPS).  TP reduces variability by setting a predictable production rate for standard activities across right-sized geographic work areas.  This disciplined planning approach can align not only the workflow at the site, but also the overall flow of materials and information through the supply chain starting in design and moving into detailing, fabrication and delivery processes required to support the execution of the Takt sequences resulting in improved work execution.  

During Day 1 of the workshop, we will utilize a hands on simulation game designed specifically to teach the concepts of Takt Planning and demonstrate how those concepts can be used to optimize flow.  During Day 2, we will apply those concepts to an actual project example through group activities and discussion (see detailed agenda below).  On day 3 several project teams from around the US including owners and GCs will present how they have used Takt on their projects followed by in-depth discussion.

Continuing Education Credits

Participants in the workshop qualify for 15.0 CM-Lean CE credits from the AGC of America toward the renewal of AGC's Certificate of Management-Lean Construction (CM-Lean).  

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the basic concepts of TP.
  • Learn how to create Takt Plans and optimize flow.
  • Understand how TP can be implemented within the larger context of the LPS.
  • Gain an understanding of when to best apply Takt Planning
  • Hands on experience with implementing Takt on a project.

Agenda Day 3 (Sept 19th) - Industry Day

Day 3 offers a unique opportunity for an in-depth look at how takt is being used on projects around the United States.  As a response to requests from past attendees, we reached out to the project teams that are implementing takt around the US, and they have graciously agreed to come and share their work, best practices, and lessons learned.
